Nigel Bradshaw started Dancezone in 2000, building a huge amount of support from the children and adults over the years. Dancezone became a family of dancers, arriving at competitions with a coach full of children and their parents raring to go! We would all support the area festivals in Bournemouth, Hove, Bracknell, Portslade & Leicester hoping to qualify for the annual Grand Finals at The Blackpool Tower or the The Winter Gardens.
'Thankfully Danni convinced Nigel to get rid of those old shell suits, years ago'
In 2018 Dancezone changed its name to Dancezone Academy. Nigel is supporting Dancezone Academy teachers
towards achieving their next professional exams.
Nigel’s parents sent him to dance lessons when he was just 4 years old (to get some peace and quiet apparently!). He, like the pupils he teaches today, worked his way through the Medalist circuit, gaining many achievements along the way. At 9 years old he met Jean.
Little did he know that he would go on to achieve many prestigious titles with Jean. They competed on the Medalist circuit for a while, then moved into Junior Open circuit and progressed through Novice, Intermediate, Pre-Champ and Amateur. The highlight of their competitive career was winning the UK Closed Championship in 1985. Jean then decided to retire from competitive dancing the very next day. Nigel took time out from the dancing scene for a while, but missed it too much, so returned to classes. His teacher at the time then questioned why he didn’t teach? He shadowed his teacher for a year, gaining teaching tips and learning how to run a successful dance school.
Nigel took his ISTD Associate Teacher exams in 1995. He has gained a reputation of excellence within the dance scene, with many of his pupils now appearing in West End shows, performing on Cruise ships and winning National and International titles within Ballroom and Latin. Nigel is passionate about dancing and his love for Ballroom and Latin is shared with his pupils and fellow teachers.
Adele started dancing at the age of 3, she worked her way up through the Under 8, Juvenile, Junior and Adult examinations, taking all her Medals up to Awards and competing in Medal Festivals. Adele spent her work experience working with Nigel, helping them with one to one lessons and group classes. The high point of her competitive career was receiving Bronze medal in the National Grand Finals. Adele also loved competing in a French dance exchange competition.
After such great experiences she started studying hard for her Student Teacher exam, gaining this qualification in 2011. She took her full Associate Ballroom exam in 2012. She also holds an NVQ 2 & 3 in Childcare with SEN experience. She is DBS certified and holds an up to date Paediatric First Aid certificate. Adele takes our kid’s classes, DofE & also works with Beginner Adults and wedding couples for their 1st dance. She’s got a great rapport with her pupils and has the patience of a saint!
